March 10, 2026, When Power Abuses, the People Respond | Power to the People News
March 10, 2026 | EPA betrayal, Iran war price tags, election interference — and one real victory for people power.
Power without accountability doesn’t just rot — it reaches into your lungs, your wallet, your ballot box, and your children’s classroom. This week’s pattern is unmistakable: a government rewarding polluters, launching unauthorized wars, and rigging the rules, counting on exhaustion to keep people quiet.
We’re not staying quiet. Power to the People News exists to name what’s happening, connect the dots, and fuel what comes next. If democracy is going to survive this moment, it will be because ordinary people stayed angry, stayed organized, and stayed in it.

📰 Stories Shaping Power to the People Right Now
⚡ Alabama Was About to Execute a Man Who Never Pulled the Trigger — Then 67,000 People Said No
Charles “Sonny” Burton, 75, spent more than thirty years on Alabama’s death row for a 1991 robbery in which another man fired the shot. The victim’s own daughter wrote an op-ed urging mercy. Six of eight surviving jurors asked for commutation. Sixty-seven thousand people signed a petition. Today, Governor Kay Ivey commuted his sentence to life. NBC News
Why it matters: This is what people power actually looks like — not in theory, but today, in Alabama. Write that down.
☠️ Former EPA Scientists Sound the Alarm: Trump’s EPA Is Deliberately Making Americans Sicker
Over 700 former EPA scientists released a report called “Terrible Toxics,” documenting how the Trump administration has weakened or eliminated protections against 12 of the most dangerous pollutants Americans face — PFAS in drinking water, mercury, lead, benzene, and formaldehyde. Former chemical industry lobbyists now run the agency that’s supposed to regulate the chemical industry. The EPA buried its own health research and built a formal mailbox for polluters to request legal exemptions. Mother Jones / Inside Climate News
Why it matters: Children in fence-line communities are breathing what scientists call “a chemical cocktail daily.” When industry executives run the agency built to stop them, that’s not governance — it’s a heist.
⛽ Trump’s Iran War Is Costing You at the Pump — And He Doesn’t Care
Trump launched military strikes on Iran with no congressional authorization and no plan to protect American families from the economic fallout. Gas prices hit a national average of $3.47 — up nearly 50 cents in a single week — costing Americans an estimated $1.5 billion more at the pump this week alone. When reporters asked about it, Trump called it “a little glitch” and shrugged: “if they rise, they rise.” Just 29% of Americans approve of the strikes. New York Times
Why it matters: He promised cheap gas. He launched an unauthorized war. Now working families across red states and blue states are absorbing the cost while he looks away. That’s a government accountability story — and voters everywhere are feeling it at every fill-up.
🗳️ The FBI Is Subpoenaing 2020 Election Records — And Trump Is Cheering
A federal grand jury subpoenaed Arizona Senate records related to the 2020 Maricopa County election — the same election multiple audits, courts, and Republican officials confirmed Biden won. That audit even found Biden received more votes than the official tally. Trump’s response on Truth Social: “Great!!!” This follows a January FBI raid on Georgia election offices. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes called it plainly: “the weaponization of federal law enforcement in service of crackpots and lies.” Politico
Why it matters: This isn’t law enforcement. It’s voter suppression dressed in a federal badge — and it’s aimed directly at the 2026 midterms.
🏫 Tennessee Wants to Slam the Schoolhouse Door on Immigrant Children
Tennessee Republicans are advancing a bill to let public schools turn away undocumented children and force teachers to report students’ immigration status — a direct attack on the 1982 Supreme Court ruling guaranteeing every child the right to a public education. The Heritage Foundation, architects of Project 2025, is explicitly pushing all 50 states to pass similar laws. Six already have. The Intercept
Why it matters: When one group of children gets pushed out, their siblings and classmates stop showing up too. The goal isn’t education policy. It’s erasure.
🗳️ The Administration Won’t Say If Armed Officers Will Be at Your Polling Place. Democrats Are Suing to Find Out.
The DNC filed a federal lawsuit after eleven Freedom of Information Act requests — sent in October to the Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Defense — went unanswered for five months. The central question: does the administration plan to deploy armed federal agents at polling places in the 2026 midterms? The White House press secretary has refused to rule it out. Federal law already prohibits it — but a law only protects you if someone is willing to enforce it. New York Times
Why it matters: Free elections don’t survive armed intimidation. The resistance and demand for safe and secure elections starts now, not on Election Day.
⚖️ Congress Just Put Itself on the Record About a War It Never Authorized
Democrats — joined by Republican Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Thomas Massie — forced floor votes on War Powers resolutions demanding Trump withdraw forces from Iran. Both failed, largely along party lines. Six American service members have already died. But the votes accomplished exactly what the administration feared: every member of Congress is now on the record, for or against an unauthorized war a majority of Americans oppose. Remember their names in November. The Guardian
Why it matters: The Constitution is clear — Congress declares war. When Republicans rubber-stamp unauthorized strikes and block every attempt at oversight, they aren’t governing. They’re abdicating. The framers designed this system for exactly this moment.
🔥 What Comes Next: The Work Is Ours
This week gave us both the threat and the proof.
The threat: a government poisoning the air, relitigating lost elections with federal subpoenas, and launching wars no one voted for — while shrugging off the cost families pay.
The proof: 67,000 signatures changed a man’s fate in Alabama. Local organizing has derailed detention facility sites across the country. Every member of Congress is now on record. None of that happened by accident. It happened because people showed up, spoke out, and built power.
Democracy doesn’t live in monuments. It lives in the grind — the petitions, the phone calls, the showing up when it’s inconvenient. Share this post with someone who needs to read it. Bring someone to the next action. Stay in the movement not just for the wins, but through the hard parts — because that’s where democracy actually gets built.
Freedom over fascism. Progress over fear. Power to the people — every single one of us.
Together, we can champion our rights, freedoms, and democracy, hold our leaders accountable to the people’s will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
